Costco Announces Exclusive Relationship with Visa & Citi (Starting April 2016)

Costco Visa Deal Announced

Costco has announced that starting on April 1, 2016, it will be exclusively accepting Visa rather than American Express.

Last month, I told you all about the impending end of Costco’s exclusive relationship with American Express. The move was expected, after Costco in Canada followed the same path in late 2014. (Although in Canada, MasterCard became the exclusive card.)

Once this change is made in 14 months, Visa will become Costco’s exclusively accepted card at both stores and gas stations. I have also read it widely reported that Costco will have a co-branded card thru Citi.

Details about the new card and all its benefits will go out to members shortly, so you’ll have plenty of time to make the transition.

  1. Costco in Canada only accepts MasterCard not Visa. This was considered a surprise that Costco chose Visa and not Mastercard unlike their Canadien stores.

Thanks for your comment – sorry, I shouldn’t be writing posts after midnight! What I meant by expected was that they dropped AmEx – I clarified the post. Thanks again for your clarification.
