eBillme: Another great way to save money

Have you heard about eBillme? I just recently learned about them and I’m thinking that there is some serious money-saving potential here.

Here’s how it works:

You use your bank’s online bill pay service to purchase a gift card and then you get 10% CASH BACK for your purchase.

You can use the card as a gift or… you can have it mailed to yourself and use it for a major purchase you’ve been planning.

Let’s say you have a home improvement project in the works. Pick up a $50, $100 or you-determine-the-amount gift card to The Home Depot and get 10% cash back!

Before you even hit a sale, you’ve already saved 10%. Cool, huh?

Of course, the other thing I like about eBillme is that it’s a great way to encourage use of cash (via your bank’s online bill pay service) as opposed to credit cards. Which means not only are you saving 10%, but you might be saving yourself a whole pile of interest, too. Win-win!

In addition to Home Depot, you can also get eBillme gift cards to popular on-line and brick-and-mortar retailers like:

Have you ever ordered a gift card through eBillme? How was your experience? I can’t wait to try them out!

  1. This is a very interesting idea but I don’t think it is always the best choice for everyone. Unless you are 100% sure you are going to use the card up, sometimes these cards just sit around for a while and your money could be better used elsewhere. In addition, sometimes people spend more money at a location because they have a gift card instead of only purchasing what they planned.

    • Good points, Frayda. I don’t think you buy them “just in case”. You either buy them because you want to give a gift (and you want to pay 10% less — i.e. get 10% cash) OR because you have a specific purchase in mind.

I think this is like a lot of what I talk about – being organized, and on top of your resources, which allows you to save more. For example, I don’t buy shoes on a whim. I think, “Hmmm, I need new Shabbat shoes for the winter. My current pair has a hole in the sole.” (true story) So I budget $60 for the next month, in order to have cash to pay for the new shoes. Then I shop around to get the best price and style that I want. More than likely, I order online, since I kinda hate shopping (ironically enough). If I know all that anyway, then getting a gift card from eBillme for Zappos makes a lot of sense.
