We tend to use vinegar and baking soda for most of our cleaning needs, but I am looking forward to trying this on some hard water build-up in my shower.

Thanks Money Saving Mom.

  4. Mara, what consistencies do you use the vinegar and baking soda when you clean with them and what type of things would you clean with them?

    • I mix up equal parts vinegar and water, plus maybe a small squeeze of dish soap and a drop or two of essential oils if you want. I keep this in a spray bottle – one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. It’s great for cleaning counters, tables, grimy kitchen chairs (and high chairs, if that’s relevant for you), sinks, showers, etc. Pretty much anything you’d use a multipurpose cleaner on.

We have pretty hard water, so I also use straight-up vinegar to eat through the white gunk. I spray it on the glass shower doors and even soak the shower head in a cup of it to remove the white build-up.

I use baking soda for scrubbing stuff, just like I would with Comet, etc. You can use it straight, or mix it into a paste with a small bit of water and dish soap.

I also love using baking soda and vinegar to clean my toilets. Dump in 1/4 – 1/2 cup baking soda, and scrub around the toilet bowl with the brush. Then after a few minutes, add a few good glugs of straight vinegar. It will start foaming like crazy. My kids get such a kick out of the “toilet volcano”. That lasts for a few seconds, and then I scrub again with the brush. For the seat, outside, base, I use the spray bottle I described above with a cleaning rag.

      HTH!

Mara, thanks for taking the time to answer Rachel’s question so clearly. I have been waiting for a tested formula for homemade cleansers to try this. I want to scale back on alot of the junk we use at home. I always enjoy reading KOAB!

  6. Thank you! I am so excited to try it!!! 🙂
