How to Talk to Kids About Money | FREE Online Class Thursday, February 20th

Google Hangout How to Talk to Your Kids About Money

I’m so excited! It’s almost here!

Tomorrow, I am co-hosting a free Google hangout about How to Talk to Your Kids About Money with the amazing parent educator, Adina Soclof from ParentingSimply.com.

The hangout will be on Thursday, February 20th at 9 p.m. EST. You can follow this link to RSVP for the event – which I hope you will do!

Adina & I spent an hour brainstorming last night and we are both so excited to share with you our thoughts on the sometimes sticky issues relating to kids & money, such as:

  • how to say “no” to your child (with kindness and empathy)
  • how to teach your children to have a healthy attitude about money
  • how to prevent that “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality from setting in — especially with adolescents and teenagers
  • how to raise “money-smart” children — whether those children are toddlers or teenagers or all of the above
  • how to handle allowance in your home
  • how to teach your children to appreciate what they do have — a great lessons for people of any age!

We’ll also be taking your questions live during the hangout – but if you’d rather ask something anonymously, feel free to email me.

New to Google Hangouts? Here’s a quick overview, so you know what to expect:

What is a Hangout on Air?

Hangouts on Air, also known as HOAs, are a very cool Google + product that’s kind of like a live TV talk show — only much more casual and down to earth. You can watch and interact live (through chat comments and questions). Or you can watch it back later via a full-length YouTube recording.

Do I have to pay to watch your Kids & Money HOA?

No! That’s the best part of this format. It’s totally free — for both the hosts and the guests (i.e. you).

Do I need a Google Account to watch the Kids & Money HOA?

No. But also yes.

You can certainly watch the recording of our Kids & Money HOA on YouTube (available in most cases the next day) without a Google account.

But having a Google + is necessary if you want to watch live and ask questions / interact with us.

It’s really quick and easy to set up a Google+ account, but here’s a tutorial if you need some hand-holding (I know I did the first time).

Once you’re set up, be sure to add me to your “circles”

What if I can’t make it on Tuesday, February 19th for the Kids & Money HOA?

While Adina and I would love to have you join us live, no worries if you can’t. It’ll be recorded and you can watch it later — I’ll share the link as soon as I have it.

Adina & I can’t wait to see you live and in-person on the 20th!

(P.S. If you’re curious to get a sneak peak at my thoughts on this subject… here’s a post I wrote way back in 2010 about how to talk to kids about money. My kids are older, but we’re still having these kinds of conversations today. It’s not something you learn in a day, that’s for sure!)

Sounds like a great program! Now I’m trying to figure out if I’ll be home at 2 pm that day :).
