UPDATE: If you got an earlier email from me today with the newsletter and it had that big yellow “Resubscribe” box – don’t panic. I have fixed this and am resending today’s newsletter to all subscribers! I apologize for the double fire today – it won’t happen again. (And I’m so, so sorry for goofing this up – I clearly know just enough about technology to be very dangerous.)
If you are reading this post, it means one of a couple things have happened:
1. You came to my blog directly and clicked on this Please Read This title. (Catchy, no?)
2. Or you saw a link on social media, like Facebook or Twitter, and clicked it.
3. Or you got this post along with half a dozen others in a daily newsletter to your email.
If any of the above apply to you, this post does NOT affect you! You can stop reading right now and go on your merry way.
But if you have already subscribed to read my blog via a RSS reader, heads up. I have a new RSS feed.
Yes, if you have been reading Kosher on a Budget via an RSS feed – and I know from stats that there are several thousand of you to whom this applies – things are changing a wee bit around here.
You see, until very recently, I had been using FeedBurner – a free service from Google – to create that RSS feed for you.
But then, as loyal Google Readers know, Google killed the Reader earlier this month. And the writing was on the wall. We don’t know when and we don’t know how, but sometimes (soon?), FeedBurner will go the way of dinosaurs.
And what that uncertain future meant to you and me is that our relationship was standing on shaky ground.
I’ve been flirting with a new RSS service for a long time — it’s called Feedblitz, and it’s the same service that I’ve been using (seamlessly, I might add) for two years to serve up my daily newsletter to those whom subscribe.
(Actually, come to think about it, I think flirting might be the wrong word. I think the “word” is actually knowing-in-the-back-of-my-head-that-I-really-need-to-take-care-of-that-but-procrastinating-because-I’m-scared.)
In any case, I finally pulled the trigger on Friday — with a lot of help from my amazing technical support guru — and switched KOAB’s RSS feed from FeedBurner to a dedicated private feed, which is served to you today by Feedblitz.
Now if that sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to you (I’m with you – I’m not entirely certain I understand the whole thing myself!), here’s the bottom line for you:
You need to resubscribe to the KOAB RSS feed if you want to continue reading the blog in a Reader (Stay with me).
Have you seen this ominous yellow box already?
It’s really quite friendly – think of it as Big Bird! Here’s what to do:
- Just click the link the blue hyperlink text right below “The feed has moved to”.
- You’ll see a compilation of my feed, with this box on the top right.
- Click on the white subscribe box.
I selected Feedly (top option on the left) since that’s the service I’ve been using since Google Reader went away – and omgah!, I love it so much! But you can choose whatever you want – it’s all good.
These few quick steps need to be done immediately – as in, right now – in order to continue accessing KOAB in a reader.
Fortunately, my feed hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s just “hiding” behind that big yellow box. As soon as you subscribe to my new feed, you’ll see all the content you’ve been missing.
Thank you – I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience, but I wouldn’t have done this if there was any other way to protect my feed from inevitable extinction.
If you have any questions, just let me know!
