Shana Tova!!!

Rimon for Rosh Hashana

Shana Tova, dear readers. You have given me such a gift in the past two months by reading and commenting and sending your emails. Thank you so much! I wish for all of us a year of sweetness and success.

Two little New Year’s “gifts” from me, really quick.

1. I LOVE this video of how to open a pomegranate. Will definitely be using those techniques in about an hour!

2. A quick reminder about Eruv Tavshilin. I’m cutting & pasting a note my rabbi sent out to our congregation, explaining the procedure. Thanks, Rabbi Rockoff! It only takes a moment, so don’t worry if you haven’t done anything about it.

It is forbidden to prepare from one day of Yom Tov to the next, or from Yom Tov to Shabbat.  In situations where an extended Yom Tov come before Shabbat, one is allowed to cook on Friday for Shabbat as long as one designates two cooked items from before Yom Tov to be used on Shabbat.  This is called the Eruv Tavshilin, literally a “mixture of cooked foods.” By designating them now, we are showing that our preparations for Shabbat have already started and we can “mix” other foods together to prepare for Shabbat.

Reminder that on Thursday no preparations for Friday night should commence until after the second day of Yom Tov begins, even though one made an Eruv Tavshilin.

See you Motzei Shabbat with all the CVS deals for next week!
