Earlier today I told you about a great promotion with Swagbucks, which is one of my favorite ways to earn a little bit of money online. It’s totally painless and takes no more time than you’d be spending looking up stuff online anyway. That’s my kind of deal!
There’s another deal that is all the rage on frugal blogs and that’s Deal-a-Day sites. For some reason, I’ve totally had my head buried in the sand about these and just haven’t gotten on board. Probably because I assumed I’d just use it as an excuse to buy stuff I didn’t need. And obviously if we don’t need it, it doesn’t matter how low the price point, it’s still not a bargain!
Well today I finally took the plunge and signed up for an account with the most popular Deal-a-Day site, Groupon.
Here’s how it works. You sign up at the site (in this case Groupon) and give them your email address. Then everyday they send you an email with the Deal of the Day — some super hot deal which is anywhere from 50-90% off the retail price.
A minimum number of units have to be purchased in order for the deal to go through, but I have yet to read about a deal that was canceled. What’s neat about Groupon is that it’s targeted to where you live, so you can get amazing local deals on anything from taking your kids to the pumpkin patch to getting a massage to buying gifts or even groceries.
In addition, Groupon has a number of deals that are available nationwide. For example, if an online store like Diapers.com is offering a $50 gift card for just $25, then anyone can get in on it, since you can order off the website from anywhere in the country.
Now the reason I’m finally getting on the Groupon bandwagon today is because they are offering a sweet little incentive that I just can’t pass up. For the first 50,000 new subscribers, Groupon will send you a free $5 gift card to be used toward the purchase of your first deal. Sweet! If I play my cards right, I might even be able to get something for free!
If you want to take the Groupon plunge with me, you can sign up here.
Are you new to the world of deal-a-day sites like me? Or are you a seasoned Group-ie? If so, have you bought any amazingly good deals?

Plum district also has great deals
I get emails from both of them and have only taken advantage of about 3, and they were things I needed anyway, so it totally worked out for me
yesterday they had a deal for wonderscope but I didn’t buy it. I’m indecisive like that.
