I need your help with something. (There could be $50 in it for you!)

The end of the secular year is nigh.

Some people take this time to reflect and make resolutions. I prefer to set goals. (Maybe it’s just semantics, but hey, I’m a writer. If you can’t give me semantics, what’ve I got left?)

When it comes to this blog, I’ve got a lot of goals, but most of them rest on one key priority: Growth. In just 5 short months, KOAB has grown tremendously, thanks to YOU.

In July – the first month of this blog – Kosher on a Budget got viewed 1,500 times. Last month, there were almost 22,000 views! (I know! I still can’t believe it!)

But those are just the numbers. The true significance has been the fact that you — friends and strangers alike — are reading, commenting, subscribing and telling your friends. It blows my mind. Thank you!

When I think about how I want to grow KOAB from here, I don’t have a specific number goal in mind. But I do know that I’d love for this place to become a landing spot for people in our community who want a resource on frugal living. (Not live-in-a-cave-and-never-spend-a-dime frugal, but live-within-your-means-and-be-a-responsible-adult frugal.)

As I see it, the best way for Kosher on a Budget to continue growing into that rather tall order is by word-of-mouth. And there’s no better word-of-mouth engine these days than Facebook.

Right now, there are about 300 of you following Kosher on a Budget on Facebook. I’d like to set a really audacious goal of DOUBLING that by the end of the year.

I know many of you have already spread the word and invited your friends to join — thank you! But if each of you who follow the blog on Facebook can recommend that one (more) friend “like” Kosher on a Budget, the goal will have been met!

Since I know that money talks (and ____ walks!), I am going to put a little money behind this goal of mine. If Kosher on a Budget has 600 fans by December 31, I will give away a $50 Amazon gift card to one of those fans as my way of saying thanks! That’s right, you gotta be a fan to win!

P.S. I wish I could make it a $500 gift card — now that would really be audacious! — because truly that is how much I appreciate you and your support of this blog. Maybe one day!

I remember when you first had this little idea, Mara. I’m so impressed at the venture you undertook and the amazing product you’ve made from your hard work. I love reading KOAB! And I’m not even Jewish! LOL!

  4. Wow – you’ve done an amazing job in just five months! I’m so impressed! I just launched my own blog and would love to hear tips – maybe in a future post (hint hint) :). Will definitely go follow you on fb as well.

    • Thanks, Rachel! Good luck with your new endeavor. It is a tremendous amount of work, but very rewarding, too. If there’s interest, I’d be happy to do a “how to start blogging” type of series. Let me think on it!

  5. Sent it out to a bunch of my friends. Lets see what happens.

  6. Just invited some friends. Your site ROCKS!

  7. Mara,

I’m probably not your target audience, but I love your blog. I’m not Kosher, I’m not even Jewish. I’m a Mormon Stay-at-Home Mom from Seattle, recently relocated to Arizona. But, your blog is great. Your Dave Ramsey story rocks. I’m happy to follow you on facebook. Would you consider putting up a post with a, well for lack of a better word, dictionary of terms. Since I am not Jewish, I often find myself googling terms to understand some of your posts completely. I don’t know a ton about holidays observed in Judeaism or what is and is not Kosher, but I’m interested in learning. But, I’m probably the odd man out in your readership. Keep on writing!

    • Thanks so much for your comment, Danna! That’s a great idea. I’ve been thinking I need a general FAQ anyway – so I can add in some terminology as well. Hopefully soon, altho no promise as to when (aaaahhhh, my to do list grows faster than our weeds this summer!). Thanks for reading and commenting!

  8. Your wish is my command. Just gave you a nod on my profile page. We check out the blog throughout the day. Even if there’s no “deal” that interests us, the notes and comments are fun food for thought, if not utterly inspiring (Chanukah under $50 for example. Wow!)

  9. You convinced me to say hi! I’m not Kosher, or Jewish, but I love your blog.

    Pam
