SavingStar: New E-Coupon Program That Stacks with Paper Coupons!

I’m very excited about the official launch of SavingStar, a new e-coupon program that hooks up with your store loyalty reward card – and lets you stack your savings with any paper or printable coupons you have.

If you read other frugal blogs, you may have seen SavingStar talked about over the weekend. I was holding off on posting about it, because I wanted to make double-triple sure that you can stack these e-coupons with paper coupons. I finally got an answer today – and it’s official: Stacking is allowed. Weeee!

Okay, so if you have no idea what I’m talking about, let me backtrack.

SavingStar is a new program that lets you get additional money back by shopping with your store loyalty card. It’s like e-coupons but instead of saving right at the register you get your savings added to a special online account. Once you have “saved” $5, you can request payment in the form of PayPal payment, a direct bank deposit, or even a gift card – yup, Amazon is included!

The SavingStar Grocery Coupons program works at many grocery stores and drug stores nationwide, including CVS – weeee!

Simply sign up for a SavingStar account online, choose the money saving coupons you want to add to your store loyalty card, buy the items, and get the money credited to your account.

SavingStar says it can take up to 4-6 weeks for your account to get credited, but I’m reading reports of it being almost instantaneous.

Best of all, as I said above, the SavingStar coupons can be used in addition to your paper coupons! Gotta love stacking the savings.

Can’t envision how this work. Here’s a hypothetical example. Say you are at CVS – where SavingStar coupons are loaded directly onto your Extra Care card.

You buy two bottles of shampoo for $5. You’ve got a $2/2 coupon and you earn $2 in ECBs. So, after coupon and ECBs, that’s like paying $1 for both bottles of shampoo.

But wait… it gets even better with SavingStar. Let’s say that shampoo has a $1/2 coupon. You load the coupon right onto your Extra Care card and stacks with the other savings. So, when buy the shampoo, $1 in savings gets added to your SavingStar account – in effect, making your after coupons and ECBs total ZERO!

Coupons get changed on the 1st of the month, but new coupons can be added anytime. Here’s a look at the current (kosher) coupons:

Comments

  1. These create issues with Upromise. I think it is either or and I’m not sure how they decide which one you get. They also are regional coupons so the ZIP code you use will change the coupons you get. Personally, I’d rather this than Upromise.

  2. My Upromise coupons never even work.
Mara, is this system already in place and working for other people?

    • Yes, already up and running, Frayda. You need to download the coupons *before* you shop – and you should be all set. As I said, I think the amount of time it takes for the savings to get credited back to your account varies. SS is saying 4-6 weeks, but it could be less. I wouldn’t use this instead of regular coupons, but since you can stack it – that’s awesome!

  3. I am 99% sure that the Dannon Greek Yogurt is NOT kosher (but I wish it was).
