Shout-Out to the Detroit Community

A huge THANK YOU to the wonderful and warm Detroit community for hosting me last night! I had so much fun!

I was blown away by the turn-out – over 75 women from across the community came out for this delightful event sponsored jointly by the Sisterhood of Shaarey Tzedek and Ezrat Nashim of Young Israel of Oak Park.

Funny story: I was chatting with one of the awesome organizers of this event, Lisa, and she kept talking about “ko-ab”. Finally I had to ask, “Are you talking about my blog?!” Turns out the Detroit community thinks of K.O.A.B. as ko-ab, where as in my head I just spell out the initials.

Even though that totally made me giggle, I was also really touched to know that Detroiters have their own identity for my blog! So tell me, are you a K.O.A.B. person or a ko-ab’er?

As promised, here is a list of resources – both on my blog and around the blogosphere – that can help you as you continue on your money-saving journey.

  • The KOAB Coupon Database is your go-to resource for finding coupons to match-up with all your sales
  • To make all your grocery sale shopping easier, check out the local Detroit frugal blogger Bargains to Bounty who shares deal match-ups for stores like Meijer and Kroger.

Finally, please don’t forget to stay in touch!

  • I hope you will “like” the KOAB Facebook page (Lisa, that includes you ;-)). Not only do I update with all the newest money-saving posts, but we also like to gab about how to make pita, what to make for Shabbat dinner and more!
  • Please also subscribe to Kosher on  a Budget – I send out a free daily email newsletter so you always know about the latest deals.

And last but not least – you can always reach me by email if you have questions, comments or just want to chat!

It was such a treat to have you!

We also enjoyed partnering with Young Israel of Oakpark. Thank you, once again, to Rebecca Starr who made this happen! Thank you Mara for all the effort you put into the program!

  3. Rebecca Starr says

We loved having you Mara! Thanks so much for visiting and sharing your ideas with us!

  4. Mara,
Thank you so much for coming to Detroit! I know that I got a lot of great information out of your visit, and it was wonderful to put a person to the blog that I love reading. As a side note, my husband has begun calling your followers koabites :)! I look forward to continuing our discussions and learning a lot more from you in the future!

    Happy New Year!
    Lesley

  5. DO you ever come to Los Angeles?

    • I haven’t yet, but I’d love to sippy! So far, all of my travels have come at the initiative of my amazingly wonderful readers. If you want to brainstorm ways to make it happen, shoot me an email at kosheronabudget at gmail dot com. 🙂

  6. Thank you so much for coming to Detroit – we loved having you here! And I definitely think it’s “ko-ab.” 😉

Wishing you a happy, healthy and frugal new year!

  7. Definitely “ko-ab” for me. Can’t believe the blogger herself isn’t!!

  8. I can’t stop laughing after reading this post. We LOVED having you here and want you to come back for more. More KO-AB!!! I have to know, will you ever become a Koabite?

  9. Michiganders have their own beautiful language…and yeah, you’re Ko-ab in DC as well! I wish I could have attended your awesome event! Sounds like it was a wonderful success. Shannah Tovah!

  10. The new database is really cool. Might want to include the “Not Expired” coupons in the “3 month”, “6 month”, and “12 month” selections. Most of us are looking for recently expired coups but that doesn’t mean we won’t use the non-expired ones too 😉

  11. I now live in Rochester, NY, but I was raised in Oak Park. I have to say, I am in the ko-ab bunch!
