Tax Free Weekend & School Supply Deals for Week of 8/8/10

Did you know that today is the last day of tax-free weekend in Missouri — and sixteen other states around the country?

For my OP readers, it might be worth it for you to head across State Line Road to do your shopping today, especially if you have big ticket items to buy.  (Plus, you can fill up with cheaper gas while you’re there!)

For my readers from other states far and near, check out this post from Consumer Reports with all the details on when your state is having its tax free weekend.

As for what I’ll be shopping for today, I’m scurrying about to pick up free or nearly free school supplies for my two boys. I’ve set a personal goal to spend no more than $5 total on both boys’ lists.

Here are some of the deals I’ll be shopping for:

Target

Post-It Super Sticky Notes ~ $1 each
Use $1/1 printable coupon (unlimited prints*)
= Free after coupons!
*Yes, you can get an unlimited number of free Post Its, but coupon etiquette demands that you only take what you can reasonably use and leave some on the shelf for the next deal shopper!

Scotch Magic Tape ~ $.50 each
Buy 3 & use the $1/3 coupon from today’s Smart Source
= $.17 each after coupons & sale!

Bic Pens ~ $1.00
Use $1/2 manufacturer coupon, stack with $1/2 Target coupon (search school supplies)
= Free after coupons!

Office Depot

2 pocket paper folders ~ $.05 each!
1” Wilson Jones 3-ring binder ~ $.25 each!

K-Mart

3-pack PaperMate pink erasers ~ $.50
40-ct RoseArt pencil topper erasers ~ $.50

Walgreens

Dial BodyWash, 16 oz ~ $3.99, get $3 in Register Rewards
$1/1 Dial Nutriskin printable
FREE after coupon and RRs!

(Not a school supply, but I can never pass up free body wash)

Elmers Glue Sticks – 2 pack ~ $.19
Elmers 4 oz. white glue ~ $.49 (with in-ad coupon)

How’s your school supply shopping going? Have you finished up your lists or are you still on the hunt for the best deals?

Comments

  1. I know this isn’t for school but target has diapers on sale (not sure how good of a deal) for $19.99. You can get a $3 coupon from target and a manufacturer’s (total of $12 off for two boxes) and you get a $5 gift card for target if you buy two.

    • @Zip – I aim to spend no more than $.10/ disposable diaper, and ideally less than $.09. I’d have to figure out how many are in a box. HTH determines if it’s a “good deal”.

      • I usually buy the off brand once the kids get bigger. Even with a coupon they are usually cheaper than the name brand.
