{Virtual} Book Club Meeting for “Inside the O’Briens” – Wednesday at 1 pm EST

Inside the O'Briens

As you may remember, I set a goal for myself in 2016 to read at least one book per month. I publicly announced my book selections for each month and asked you to join me in reading this year. Nothing like public accountability partners!

Did you read along for January’s selection, Inside the O’Briens: A Novel by Lisa Genova? I can’t wait to discuss it with you.

I’ve checked into a lot of different video platforms to try to figure out the best way to hold our book club meeting. There is no perfect solution (isn’t that the truth?!), so I’ve decided that we will give Periscope a try this month and see how it goes.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3rd at 1 pm EST (10 am PT), I will be broadcasting LIVE on Periscope and invite you all to attend.

Periscope is a live streaming video app that you can install on your phone. You can “broadcast” (what I’ll be doing), or you can you watch and comment on other people’s broadcasts (what I hope you’ll be doing). If you haven’t put the Periscope app on your phone yet, head over here to do it on iTunes or here for Android. Once you sign up for Periscope, you can search for me by my handle @kosheronabudget — let me know if you have trouble finding me, and I’ll try to help. Once you follow me, you can choose to be notified when I go “live”, which I recommend doing, so you don’t miss out on the discussion.

I have outlined a bunch of my thoughts on the book and have lots of questions that I want to ask you, too. Of course, if no one shows up, I’ll just be talking to myself — which won’t be very much fun (or very elucidating!).  So, um, please: Show up!

I do plan to save a playback of the video, which I will share here on KOAB later in the day. If you can’t make it to the Book Club live, don’t worry: You can definitely watch it after the fact and add your thoughts in writing.

Questions? Lay ’em on me. I’m trying to figure out how to make this virtual book club thing work as I go along, so please bear with me and share your suggestions.

Want to join us for a subsequent book club? You can check out the rest of my 2016 Reading List HERE. (And PS — Tomorrow, I am going to be seeking some new recommendations for the February book, as my library only has it in e-book format.)

  1. OK, so totally enjoyed that. You’re very good at it! Can I recommend patti smiths book, Just Kids, which was so beautifully written. Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, brilliant. The orphan masters son by Adam Johnson, North Korea at its most terrifying. Anything by Jeanette Walls (I feel like you would like her.) BTW, I was logged into the chat as Surella.

Thank you so much for being there — even though you hadn’t read the book! I’m going to check out your suggestions, too! <3
