I’ve mentioned before that we are homeschooling this year. While we do most of our learning from books (or from mom & dad), I do like to use some computer software to help reinforce skills or keep one child on-task while I’m finishing up with the other one.
Hands-down, the best reading and phonics program we have used is Reading Eggs.
Typically it costs $75 for a one-year subscription to Reading Eggs – a worthwhile investment, but not pocket change. Today, however, you can get a subscription to Reading Eggs for just $29.99 from the deal a day site Zulily.
Just log in or sign up for Zulily, then scroll down to the Reading Eggs tab. Since this is available online, you won’t have to worry about shipping fees.
Whether you homeschool or not, Reading Eggs is fantatic for kids kindergarten thru sixth grade. We have one child in the “learning to read” stage and one in the “reading to learn” stage – and Reading Eggs works great for both of them.
There are two different groups within the subscription: Reading Eggs teaches and reinforces phonics and sight words, while Reading Eggspress helps your child hone their reading skills like main idea, plot, and character identification.
In short, I can’t recommend this strongly enough – and at only $30, it’s definitely a great value.
(If you don’t want to commit without trying it out, you can get a free one-month trial to Reading Eggs HERE.)
Reading Eggs is a web based literacy learning program for 4 to 11 year olds. The online program is built on the 5 essential elements of reading instruction: Phonemic awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension. It has over 500 highly interactive games and fun animations to deliver these elements of reading. The Reading Eggs program is already being used in over 2,000 elementary schools and growing each day as the #1 learning to read program.
