I’m celebrating Tu B’Shevat a little early with a FUN giveaway! (My logic? Bananas grow on trees, right? Sort of.)
Would you believe that until this Shabbat I had never played Bananagrams? I am quickly realizing that this game is ADDICTING. And it’s perfect for playing on Shabbat, because there are no batteries or pencils needed.
Named Toy Fair’s 2009 Game of the Year, Bananagrams is similar Scrabble, but I actually thought it was more fun. I played against my 8 year-old and he was a fierce competitor against his word geek mom!
Hebrew Banangrams was developed 10 years ago, but was previously only available in the Israeli market. Now, they are selling this fun Hebrew version of Bananagrams in North America as well.
Whether you are fluent in Hebrew or just learning, I think Hebrew Bananagrams is a wonderful way to flex your vocabulary muscles. And since Hebrew has so many two and three-letter words, it’s relatively easy – even for a novice.
“This game is ideal for native Hebrew speakers as well as those just starting out with the language, like many olim. Learning Hebrew is such a great way to connect to your Jewishness. There is so much depth in the Hebrew language that is lost in translation,” said Sharon August-Dalfen, the creator of the Hebrew version.
As I was playing, I was also thinking how perfect this game would be to reinforce vocabulary lessons in a classroom setting. (In fact, I’m planning to donate our review copy to my sons’ school – if I can part with it.)
Hebrew Bananagrams retails online for 99 NIS (approximately $26.50 at current exchange rates), which includes free shipping in Israel or to North America. Shipping takes between 5-10 days for delivery from Israel.
But today, KOAB readers have a chance to be one of the lucky three who win their own copy of the fun-filled word game stuffed in a yellow banana pouch!
If you would like to enter to win, you must leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite game to play on Shabbat afternoon. One entry per person.

Good luck!
