Are you looking for a special gift for someone who loves to cook – but doesn’t love to spend all day in the kitchen? I’ve got the perfect idea for you: CHIC Made Simple, the newest cookbook by Ami Magazine food editor, Esther Deutsch.
Esther has a theory: If your food looks irresistible, it will taste incredible, too. Her recipes are designed to look — and taste– like gourmet cuisine. Yet the recipes are so easy, they take just minutes.
CHIC Made Simple features delectable, no-fuss cuisine that is made to order for all cooks: simple enough for the novice, fast enough for the busy cook, and impressive enough for the most accomplished.
Her beautiful and delicious recipes are perfect for your Shabbat or yomtov table – or anytime you want to treat your family to a special dinner (without hours of fussing in the kitchen first.)
Here’s one of my favorite CHIC Made Simple recipes. I’m a huge fan of teriyaki salmon, plus how pretty are those stripes?!
Striped Teriyaki Salmon
1 large (36 oz.) salmon fillet
2 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce
¼ cup soy sauce
½ cup Dijon mustard
½ cup honey
1 lemon, juiced
5 cloves garlic, minced
Black and white sesame seeds
Place the salmon in an oversized, sealable plastic bag. Combine the teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, mustard, honey, lemon juice, and garlic and pour over the salmon. Turn the salmon to coat. Refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours.
Preheat the oven to 350° F. Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Remove the salmon from the marinade and place on the baking sheet.
Sprinkle the salmon with the black and white sesame seeds in diagonal stripes, alternating with the black and white seeds. Use the dull side of a large knife to help keep the lines even.
Bake for 50 minutes for a large fillet or 35–40 minutes for individual slices. Transfer to a serving platter and serve warm or at room temperature.
Serves 6.

I think i would give it to my daughter. when she cooks, she tends to use her slow cooker and everything ends up looking brown. this will color up her cooking!

I would keep it for myself. Living in Georgia, I’ve found kosher food to be far more expensive than in NY. Add this to the fact that post-divorce, I am reinventing myself, developing a social life…and would like to begin entertaining more. This cookbook would help me in do that. 🙂
I subscribe daily!!
I would selfishly keep this for myself; though my Shabbos guests would appreciate some new and tasty food I’m sure!!

I would like to have the cookbook for myself as I am the chief, cook and bottle washer in my house. My married kids would also rather get food that I make than make it themselves.
