HAPPY BIRTHDAY KOAB!
Yes, my friends, it’s Kosher on a Budget’s 5th birthday!
Five years is a long time – and yet it feels like it has zoomed by in the blink of an eye. This is my longest tenure at a single “job” – and I’m sure it goes without saying, but it’s been the most enjoyable, rewarding job I’ve ever been blessed to have.
If you are newer to KOAB, you may not know the story of how we got started here. Five years ago, my dear friend Amy was sitting on my back porch, talking with me about some great deal I’d gotten on toothpaste at CVS. She suggested I start a money-saving blog for people who keep kosher. “Yeah, right,” I said. “The field is so saturated. The last thing the world needs is yet another frugal blog.”
Secretly, I’d thought about it before, but I’d always written it off. It seemed too big, too scary, too audacious to think I could really do it.
Fortunately, though, that afternoon something in me finally clicked. Then I had to broach the idea with my husband, who thankfully was all in. In fact, I remember exactly what he said to me, “I’ll be behind you 150% as long as you are 100% committed to this!” Ha, little did he realize just how committed I was going to be! KOAB is like a 4th child in our family at this point!
Over the past 60 months, Kosher on a Budget has grown so far beyond even my wildest dreams. In August 2010, I was thrilled because I had 1000 page views in a month. Today, Kosher on a Budget sees 1000 page views in an hour. Whoa!
My love for you all, though, is far more than something that can summed up in statistics. Your comments, shares, likes, and — best of all — personal notes mean the world to me. I’m so honored that you’ve made my blog your blog – the place you come for all the latest money-saving information.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for supporting KOAB by sharing it with your friends and relatives. Thank you so, so much!
Mush fest aside, now it’s time to PARTY! And it wouldn’t be a party without some awesome giveaways.
I thought a lot about what I wanted to give away, and I hope that you guys will be happy with what I chose to do.
Since I want to reward as many of you as possible, I’m going to be giving away prizes to FIVE (5) lucky winners, who will get to choose a $50 gift card to either Amazon, Target or Starbucks.
Amazon, because where else can you click three times and get a new toilet, some toilet paper and a toilet decal all in one place, delivered to your door in 48 hours?
Target, ‘cuz I know some of you still prefer shopping in a real store rather than online – it’s okay, I still love you! 😉
And Starbucks, ‘cuz, love.
It’s up to each winner to choose whichever $50 gift card they want – and I’ll be sure to send it over to them right away.
There are five ways to enter this giveaway – the first is required. You can feel free to do any or all of the other four in order to increase your chances of winning.
#1 Required Entry – Leave me a comment on this post. Share your birthday wishes; tell me your favorite post of all time; or just say “Hey!”. Any comment will do! (There are two ways to leave a comment below – either is great!)
#2 Optional Entry – Subscribe to the KOAB Email Newsletter. With all the changes in Facebook, email is where it’s at if you want to make sure you don’t miss a single deal! Once you subscribe, leave me a separate comment that you have done so (or if you’re already a subscriber, just let me know that).
#3 Optional Entry – Share this post with your friends on Facebook. Just click the blue “like” button at the top of this post or the “f” square on the left side of the post. I know you probably feel like your friends must know about KOAB, but of the nearly 16,000 or so people who’ve liked KOAB, they have over 150,000 friends who haven’t done so yet! Again, leave a separate comment once you’ve shared.
#4 Optional Entry – Sign up to get Text Alerts from KOAB. I send out text messages hottest deals that are likely to expire before you can get to them. Just text KOABDeals to 40404. Yep, you’ve got it – leave a separate comment that you’ve signed up.
#5. Optional Entry – Follow KOAB on Instagram. I’m not an avid IGer, but I’m trying to get better. (This month, I’m doing another Whole30, so most of my feed will be food pixs!) Then, come back and leave a separate comment — and, if you want, tell me your Instagram name, so I can follow you back!
You have until July 13th at 11:59 pm EST to enter this giveaway. The five winners will be notified the next day by email. If I don’t hear back from you in 48 hours, I will sadly need to pick another winner.
Fine Print: You must be 18 years or older to enter. You may live outside of the United States to enter, but I can’t guarantee that you can use the gift card abroad – sorry. I am personally paying for these gift cards. Neither Amazon, Target nor Starbucks does not know about, sponsor nor endorse this giveaway.

Entry # 1
Maybe the world has a lot of frugal blogs, but I don’t know of any others geared for the kosher consumer that are relevant to such a range of observance. Some things are universal (like a set of red dishes go on sale and you tell us to grab them for Pesach) but other things might appeal to different people in different ways (like a girl’s dress that some would use as-is and some would put a shell and leggings under). I feel like the Jewish world is so niche-y that it’s nice to have a place we can all use and something we can agree on (saving money!)
