2015 Back to School Best Prices List

2015 Back to School Best Prices List | Don't overpay for your school supplies! Here is a list of the most commonly requested school supplies with the target price you should be paying for each one.

School may have just ended in your neck of the woods, but back-to-school sales are gearing up this week!

If you’ve got a mile-long list of school supplies, then you’re going to want to pay special attention to Kosher on a Budget. Every Sunday for the rest of the summer, I will be posting a round-up of the very best deals on school supplies at stores near you. Of course, I’ll also post awesome online school supply deals, too!

If you’re off-roading your shopping, you still want to be sure you’re getting the very best price. So, by popular demand, I’ve put together this 2015 Back to School Best Prices List.

These are your “buy now” prices on 39 of the most common items on school’s supply lists. To hit these targets, I recommend starting early and being patient – all supplies will eventually reach these buy-now prices, but they won’t all do it the same week or at the same store.

If the price on an item is slightly higher than the one listed here, it may still be worth it for you to buy it — so you can cross it off your list and be done with it! (This is a prime example of that old Time vs. Money conundrum.)

Here are more strategies for getting the best prices on school supplies.

Cut & paste this list into a document on your phone – or head over HERE to print out a copy of this list, which I saved for you as a Google Doc.

I’ll be sure to post about various clearance finds, both in stores and online. We’ll have to wait and see if Office Max/Office Depot continue offering FREE After Rewards backpacks as they did in years past.

  1. For those of you that need Ticonderoga pencils specifically (my kids’ school requires that brand), Staples has the best deal I have ever seen on them THIS WEEK (meaning right now!): $2.00 for 24 unsharpened or 18 sharpened pencils. Only available in-store, only this week, limit is 30. My previous low ever was $1.25/dozen. This is a good enough price (and pencils don’t go bad) that this is worth buying enough to get your kids through the next several years if you have the space to store them.

Also, Staples has introduced the concept of the “Less List” starting last year. They have about 10 items that they are selling at strike-price prices through the whole season. Among them are:

Crayola markers (10 pack, thick or thin): $0.97
Crayola colored pencils (12 pack): $0.97

So you don’t have to bother looking at any other sale that is over $0.97 anywhere else (and it’s hard to find these in Crayola brand at a lower price ever), and you can just grab them whenever you’re in Staples for another deal. They’ll keep that price into at least the first week of September, and they keep them in good stock.

  2. Do you have a target price for mechanical pencils?

  3. Mara Strom says

Oops, I should have the on the list! They shouldn’t be more than $1 per package, but on rare occasion you’ll be able to get them for under $.50 as a door buster.
