I’m usually a “real” dishes person. Sure, sometimes laziness takes over and I want to use disposables, but the vast majority of Shabbatot are served on our real dishes.
But when it comes to Sukkot, all my real dishology flies out the window. I want take-and-toss and nothing else for our al fresco dining. Usually I just pick up a huge honking package at Costco and call it a day. Sometimes, though, I want to go a little upscale – and when that happens, I am usually aghast at the cost.
Enter Factory Direct Party. They have everything from plain old plastic plates to high end fancy ones, plus everything and anything else you could need for your chag: Foil pans, garbage bags, wine glasses, serving platters and bowls, decorations, and more.
Their factory-direct prices are extremely competitive – and in most cases, beat Costco. Plus, you get to pick your patterns and colors, and you can have it all delivered to your door – for FREE if you order over $50 and use the promo codeΒ KOAFS11.
But one lucky KOAB reader won’t need to buy anything for serving meals during Sukkot because he or she will win a complete two-meal setting for 16 (32 total) of high end disposable tableware and Sukkah decorations.
The winner will be able to customize a package of your choosing that includes:
- Black fluted plates and bowls
- Clear tumblers, wine cups, and pitcher

- Floral patterned napkins with cream solid beverage napkins
- Black Duet (black handle with silver top) cutlery

You will even get an extensive selection of hanging fruit decorations with festooning and streamers.

Definitely a combo of real dishes and disposable
I like disposable, my husband goes for real. I usually use real.
I usually use real dishes for Shabbos/Yom Tov EXCEPT Sukkos. Can’t handle the dishes moving inside to out and back again. Too much shlepping too.
I am all about the disposables – my real dishes are only service for 12, and that’s usually not enough for our big Shabbat and yom tov meals.
Depending on the company, use both.
Real dishes….except for sukkos!
I prefer real, but sometimes if it is just the family, or a potluck with friends, then we use disposables.
I used to be a disposables girl during the week and real on Shabbos but now we have dairy and meat dishwashers, so I have gotten much better. Over a long holiday, we use “nice” paper. Its just not fair to make anyone wash dishes for 6 huge meals.
Mostly real dishes. Often paper cups (hate washing glassware!)
DISPOSABLE. No shame. π
Love throw aways with my large family. But stick to real b/c I always forget to buy the disposables.
I’m a real dishes girl – even on Sukkot, but this does sound like a lovely idea. I use small disposable [plates for the charoset and eggs on Pesach though and we have a huge Sukkor open house (around 100 people) so I definitely use disposables then. The cups kill me though – we serve hot apple cider (crock pot) and the styrofoam always bugs me.
We use disposable when we are hosting a large group (our 8 settings just does not cut it). Otherwise, we try to stick to the real plates.
I’m a mix. I really don’t mind doing the dishes (or, when fleishig, we have the dishwasher) so when it’s fleishig or I’m doing the dishes, I like real dishes. But, I always try to make my wife’s life easier, so when I know she’ll get stuck with more dishes (weekday, milchig, etc.) I like going disposable!
I use real dishes when we run out of paper π
For shabbat, real dishes. For chag, paper all the way.
Generally I like real dishes. I like to bring out and get use of my china for chags and Shabbos. On the other hand, for Succos I like disposable tableware.
I generally like dishes because it saves money, but in the sukkah I like paper because its easier. Also, after a 3 day yontif/shabbos we just had I used real dishes for every meal and Im ready for a break!
prefer real plates but sometimes just easier to use disposables
my husband prefers real dishes, but if we are having a lot of guests, I overrule and use disposables. Btwn just 2 meals we will be having about 40 guests
Both! But Paper/Plastic all the way on Sukkos for sure! My mom calls paper/plastic dishes “serve for a thousand”!
oops! that should read “Service for a Thousand”!
Definitely real dishes, but we do gave our paper shabbos’ occasionally. Sukkos is only paper though. Too risky to use real outside and to have do many dishes every meal.
omg totally a disposable girl. my real dishes are correll because I break real dishes so easily (i know its sad). I would love to win this because disposables are so expensive…
I am a disposables addict! Only on shabbat do I use real plates and not for the kids. There is no way I will risk my dishes/china breaking by using them outside in the sukkah.
We use real dishes cuz my husband is a frugal environmentalist and his ideals have rubbed off on me as well (don’t worry, he helps clean the dishes, he puts his apron where his mouth is lol). We go away for Succos so we don’t make that distinction, however, this would be a terrific gift for our hosts (plus I make keep some for for that next time we have guests and it’s “just too much”).
On Shabbos I love using my special fine china. If we are having lots of guests i like to use nice disposables though. I hate washing the dishes so disposables during the week are preferred.
We are 99% real, employing disposables when it serves shalom bayit π
I prefer disposables for Sukkos, but my wife thinks they’re wasteful so she pushes for real dishes. During the rest of the year, it’s strictly the real stuff for Shaoos and yontif!
I love using my china for Shabbos, but Sukkos is different. We haven’t had very good luck with a concrete floor and dishes. π
I prefer disposable for large gatherings, if it’s just immediate family then real
disposable. PLEASE, PLEASE let me win this π
I love disposable for big holiday meals – otherwise, real!
I use both. In sukkah definitely use plastic but some real for serving
real dishes for the most part except when I am having more than 10 people. for succos I am having at least 30 people every meal so I really really want to win this!!
Well, it all depends on how many people are popping in for dinner. I bought setting for 20 for my fleishig set, but after 5 years of marriage and 2 kids, I am down to 7 settings :-(. So if there are more than 7, which there always is….I have to use paper.
Usually real dishes…but sometimes disposable for dessert….
Or nice disposables with chargers if we have more people than dishes.
Definitely paper for big crowds and china for small.
We prefer to use real (everyday dishes for weekdays and Shabbat meals without guests and china when we have guests) but use paper/plastic for Succot and for when all of a sudden there’s lots of kids showing up at meal/snack time – usually Seudah Shlishit b/c by then we’re typically out of our everyday dishes.
I am all for disposables!
we always use china for Shabbos & YT, but for Sukkos I think we are going to use disposables!
I would use disposable all the time, but my husband doesn’t go for that, and I start feeling guilty about the environment! But, sukkot is definitely disposable.
I’m a real dishes kind of girl but for Sukkot I’m all about the disposable!!
real, all the time. Having a hard time with sukkot, i think i may have to go paper with all the guests π
I used real for all the meals this Rosh Hashana. I think I learned my lesson and will spring for plastic next time π
We hate washing dishes but also try not to create too much unnecessary garbage with disposables.
I’m fine w/disposables but my hubby much prefers real. kol hakavod to him if he’s up to setting, clearing & washing π
Usually real, but disposable on sukkot, for sure. (Our sukkah is on our driveway!)
mostly real though for big dinners disposable is SO much easier
i am a real dishes person, and use them in the sukkah for less company
