Where Can I Get the Best Deal on a Nintendo DS for Black Friday?

Based on the two dozen or so emails I’ve received about the Nintendo DS, it seems like this is a very popular item on your wish lish for Chanukah.

So I did some digging.

Here’s the deal: Unfortunately, this isn’t going to be a heavily discounted item this week.

Does that mean we might see a big sale push after Black Friday, but still before December 25th (ehem)?

Yes, we might – but it’s pretty unlikely.

And if you really want the DS before Chanukah, you don’t have much time to wait and see anyway. So, here are the best deals that we know about today.

Nintendo DSi XL Deals

My son bought the DSi XL several months ago with his savings. I really recommend the XL (extra large) if you can swing it.

The larger size is not only better for viewing – the screen is roughly 20% bigger – but also better for kids and their clumsy hands (or maybe that’s just my child?). It also has a slightly longer battery life.

The best price on the Nintendo Dsi XL this week is going to be $99.96 at Walmart for Black Friday.

This price will be available IN STORE only, starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

And it’s only while supplies last.

I.e. be prepared to fight with 101 other mamas trying to get their kid a DS for under $100. 😉

If you don’t want to fight the crowds, the regular, non-sale price on the DSi XL is typically around $130. Target has it for $129.99 right now – but in stores only.

I’m hoping that Amazon will match the Walmart price – or come close to it – on a Lightning Deal, but so far I haven’t seen it.

Nintendo 3D Deals

As for the 3-D feature, in my opinion (and my 9 year old’s – and lets face it, that’s whose opinion really counts), it’s not worth the up-charge.

But if your kiddo has their heart set on it, it looks like the best price we’ll see for the Nintendo 3Ds XL is going to be $199.

There are a number of stores that will have it at this price, including Target, Game Stop and Best Buy – so take your pick. My advice: Find it online for that price, so you’re not fighting the crowds.

Hope this helps those of you that are chalashing after a deal on the Nintendo DS system.

(P.S. As for the many of you that want a deal on a Wii, I’m doing the research and will put up a similar post as soon as I’ve got it.)

  1. Thanks so much!!! This is SO HELPFUL!!!

  2. My 7 year old, LL, has been saving up for a DS. Gamestop told him the deals would be fabulous on Black Friday. We’re yet to see. In the meantime, I’m wondering if there’s a great advantage in buying a brand new one. For $50-$100, you can get a used model at Gamestop now ($140 for the 3DS)–prices which will also go down on Friday, presumably. Does anyone have experience buying a used one? My son doesn’t care that it’s used, and I’m wondering if there’s any reason I should!

  3. Actually, for those ready to fight the crowds, Kmart has the dsi (not XL) as a doorbuster for $79.99.
But I’m not ready to get killed for it. I wish there were an online deal like that.
