Reason #52,491 that I love Aldi: Seasonal special buys.
With the winter holidays upon us, Aldi is stocked to the brim with speciality food items, baking goodies and a whole aisle of toys!
Today when I went to Aldi to do my weekly produce stock-up, I took some time to check out their special holiday items.
Although kosher-keepers can’t partake in Aldi’s holiday meat and speciality cheese selection, I was very impressed with the number of items I found that did have a hechsher on them (looks like I’m going to need to update my Kosher Aldi Database!).

Many of the Special Buy baking items are kosher, including my absolute favorite: Andes Creme de Menthe Baking Chips. (These make the best minty chocolate chip cookies.)
And of course, Aldi carries plenty of items that don’t require a hechsher — from paper goods to fresh produce to toys.

Aldi’s Seasonal Special Buys are priced extremely competitively, but you can save even more when you shop the Lower Price Red Tags.
Nearly all of Aldi’s Seasonal Buys get marked down even more following the “season”. The section below, for example, features post-Thanksgiving goodies for as inexpensive as $.25 (sadly none were hechshered).

I plan on visiting Aldi again in the days after Christmas to scope out the markdowns. In my experience, discounts range from 25-75% and the longer something sits on the shelves, the deeper the savings go.
Even if you’re not looking for a Seasonal Buy, I absolutely adore the everyday savings in Aldi’s produce section. Sales vary regionally, but at my store today, I was able to snag pineapples for $1.29 and a 3-lb bag of navel oranges for $.99.

I’m especially excited to see Aldi carrying more and more organic selections. My store had organic cherry tomatoes, apples, carrots and bananas — and with the exception of the bananas, those items are all on the Dirty Dozen list.
As we’ve talked about before, while I can’t necessarily afford to buy all my family’s produce organic, I do try whenever I can to avoid conventionally grown produce for those Dirty Dozen items.

Do you love Aldi, too? Perhaps you’d like to try out Aldi for the first time? You can find an Aldi near you on the store locator.
Two lucky KOAB readers will each win a $50 gift card to Aldi to splurge on some special seasonal supplies or to help cover their weekly stock-up. (We shop weekly at Aldi for produce, milk, yogurts and eggs and never spend more than $40, so if you win, your $50 should go a long way!)

I love Aldi because they have produce, nuts, and baking products at unbeatable prices! Also, since they don’t have very many aisles, a shopping trip can be completed in less than 20 minutes which is much less time than it would take me to shop at any other supermarket.
I love that I can buy a ton of produce for only $25!

I LOVE ALDI!!! I get my milk, eggs, yogurt and almost all of our school snacks there! I go usually once a week if not more. Do they have the O-U parve dark or white chocolate peanut butter where you live? It’s a seasonal product here and I’m in love!!!
I get the KOAB newsletter by email.
I absolutely LOVE Aldi. We did not really have access to a close Aldi in NJ and now in Ohio it is my go to place for basic produce and food basics from snacks to frozen pancakes. I’ve found so many cool products that are kosher that nobody else carries and they are dirt cheap. I keep spreading the word…love love love Aldi.
We like the chocolate chip cookies that are kosher and pareve. I also like the baking product like baking powder, flour, sugar and salt which don’t need a hechsher.
I love the deals the Beautiful Bride gets shopping at Aldi. Sometimes it’s funny the things that are hechshered there, and sometimes disappointing what’s not. And I already like KOAB on FB, and subscribe to the newsletter. And I am not a spambot, so I’ll check the box.
Unfortunately the only Aldi in my area is a bit far, so I do not go there as often as I would like to. Although if I had a gift certificate, I would definitely make the trip. Just reading your posts about the store, makes me want to petition for an Aldi near me.
Thank you

The prices are so low even with all of the credit card points you can get it comes out so much cheaper. I can say that every product that we have tried so far has been a quality product, they don’t taste like an off brand products.

I love that their almond milk is pareve (OU), which isn’t always easy to find, and their produce prices can be amazing (10 lb of potatoes for $1.99 earlier this week). I do wish they had more products with a hechsher, but it’s definitely still worth shopping there!

I didn’t visit Aldi stores for a number of years after an unfortunate canned food incident. I have recently been impressed with their organic selection and find myself visiting the store more often. It’s becoming a weekly stop for us. There are only two other stores in my community where I can purchase produce. One is generally quite expensive and the other (Walmart) tends to have mold issues and moldy-smelling displays. Aldi is clean and has excellent pricing.

Aldi is amazing for so many things: cheap tuna, snacks, yogurt, pasta, baby soap, paper plates. Love, love, love 🙂
I haven’t tried those Andes mint chips — but I love the candies. I think they’d be yummy in cookies.

I am a subscriber. Thank you for all your great information! My all-time very favorite money-saving tip was the FREE Koren Siddur last summer! My husband was thrilled with it as an anniversary gift!
I love seeing kosher items from all different places. There’s always something surprising that you didn’t think was kosher, but is! Also, their prices can’t be beat!

Aldi’s isn’t the most convenient store for me to get to, but I’ve been intending to make the time to go there anyway because we use so much produce! Even though we can’t use the dairy items, winning the gift card would be a great motivator for me to shop there 🙂
I’ve been a very happy subscriber for over a year
I’m new to Aldi but one just opened by me! I also like Kosher on a Budget on FB and get your newsletter. Would love to win a gift card to go check out the new store!

I love your emails, I like your page I shop Aldi for years! At Aldi the prices of eggs, Milk, pure frozen fruit bars, too name a few are ALWAYS CHEAPER!! The problem is I always walk out with a lot more than I expected to because of the quantity of Kosher items ALWAYS surprises me!

I used to shop more at Aldi’s many years ago in Ithaca where I first heard about it. Not too near my house, but when I pass the store, I can’t resist going in since I never know what type of bargains I will find there.

I had a quick look in our local Aldi, but I am excited to check out their products and prices. A $50 gift card to spend would be great inspiration to spend some time there.

Love saving $$
You single-handedly exerted enough force to get me to finally sign up with Pinterest. 🙂 No other force on Earth has yet exhibited that much power! 😉 You are the only one I am following. I’m laughing because I’ve said all along “I’ll never do Pinterest because I’ll enter and never escape!” We’ll see what happens. But, I figure the chance at a $50 Aldi card is worth it.
I wish all the canned goods would be kosher as well, like the good old days.
would go more often if there were a closer one
great products with great taste at very good price
so you get quality + savings
What I love about Aldi is that: 1) It is nearby, 2) It is very small and therefore quite to get in and out with all the basics covered, 3) Many of the prices, if not lower, are very close to the standard grocery store prices. So glad we have an Aldi now.
Would love to win an Aldi gift card.
Love the convenience of parking lot. In Brooklyn it’s a huge deal!

I went to Aldi after reading your blog and I love the fresh, crisp, and unbelievably inexpensive quality produce! I love their own brand, Millville knock off items that try replicating Quaker granola bars and cinnamon toast crunch! They even have a Fit N Active, like a weight watchers line! I bought so much that after I finished unloading my cart, I saw that the checkout lady filled a brand new cart with all of my stuff unbagged! I said, no bags?! She explained to me that you need to bring or you can purchase each bag, which she didn’t even offer me! So it was hysterical loading and unloading my car!
Never heard of the store before. Meanwhile, I got a circular from them this week! Maybe I’ll have to check them out.

Aldi is amazing because the prices are great and the produce and dairy products are delicious.
I love how Aldi’s keeps its prices down: it charges for bags (good reason to bring your own!), it doesn’t spend the time or money to take products out of their cases, and they limit the number of employees to only what they actually need to operate the store.

They have really good parve chocolate chip cookies that taste just like Matts.
