I just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you– about three years ago I found your website, and through your story, my husband and I were inspired to get out of debt. I had about $35,000 worth of student loan debt, (one of which had an 8.5% interest rate) and after reading your story, we made a joint decision to get rid of the debt as fast as possible. We purchased a copy of Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover, and we were on our way.
With “gazelle like intensity,” we switched to an all cash (in envelopes) system, made monthly budgets, snowballed payments, shopped at Aldi and put every spare dollar, including tax returns and bonuses, towards killing the debt. Literally today, 1 month after my third was born, we just paid off the last one.
