My 1st Ever Periscope

1st PeriscopeHave you guys heard about Periscope? It’s a new social media platform, which is entirely video based. Unlike YouTube, though, the videos that you can watch on Periscope are TOTALLY LIVE – no edits, no re-takes, LIVE. Oh, and you can only record and/or watch ‘scopes (that’s what they call the video broadcasts) from your smart phone.

One other really cool feature of Periscope is that the broadcasts are only online for 24 hours – so you can watch a play-back, but just that first day after it was recorded. After that, it’s gone forever.

That means that the interaction is immediate and real, in a way that I haven’t experienced for quite some time on social media. I use to feel that way about Facebook, but with all the algorithm changes lately, it’s harder and harder to really connect with people. I know many of you are frustrated because you aren’t even seeing updates anymore. 🙁

Which is why I did the scariest thing ever for me and broadcast my first ever “scope” a few minutes ago. I’m telling you, I was SO nervous. My heart was pounding, my ears were ringing and I was talking a million miles a minute. (I’m a fast talker anyway, but this was crazy fast – even for me.)

I can see why so many people love this platform! It was terrifying and thrilling all at the same time!

Over the next two days, I thought I would try to broadcast a couple more quick scopes to check in with everyone about their Rosh Hashana preparations. In my first scope, I told you about the shopping I did yesterday and my plan for the rest of the day. Pretty banal, I know, but you know what’s awesome? 21 people actually showed up and participated!! And a few more of you may be able to catch it on the replay.

If you haven’t put the Periscope app on your phone yet, head over here to do it on iTunes or here for Android.

Are you a ‘scoper? I’d love to follow you, so please leave a comment with your handle!

Happy viewing! YIKES!
