Um, Shavuot is in less than a week.
(You very organized, on-top-of-it people already know this. But for the rest of us, or, errrr, me — this information caught me completely.off.guard. Which is surprising, since I’ve managed to count every day of the Omer so far — so you’d think I’d realize we were getting close.)
In any case, with a two-day yomtov nipping at my heels (technically in Israel, it’s only one-day, but functionally it’s two days, since we go straight from Shabbat into yomtov), I’ve had to get serious about making my menu plans.
Apparently I am really late to this, because when I went to place my grocery delivery order, I discovered that the first available date is NEXT WEEK — i.e. after Shavuot! (Insert super sad face.)
Sigh. Live and learn (or keep repeating the same mistakes, potato-potahto).

Shabbat / Shavuot Menu Plan 5782
Shabbat Dinner
- Challah & dips
- Chicken soup & matzah balls
- Grilled pargiot (boneless chicken thighs)
- Roasted potatoes & sweet potatoes
- Roasted brussels sprouts
- Fruit (I figure we’ll have having enough sugar over the next two days I don’t need a baked dessert – we’ll see if the kids accept this!)
Shabbat Lunch (light lunch, so we have room for a dairy-heavy dinner)
- Challah & dips
- Steamed artichokes with homemade garlic mayo dip
- Potato cigars (frozen, not homemade) – my daughter loves them
- Chinese chicken salad
- Chocolate babka (out of the freezer), watermelon
Erev Shavuot Dinner
- Challah – Garlic Knots
- Cream of Broccoli Soup (substitute pareve chicken soup bouillon)
- Homemade macaroni & cheese
- Greek salad
- Steamed carrots & cauliflower (I figured we’d need something light to balance out all the butter & cheese!)
- Dessert (my daughter asked to be in charge, and I’m not sure what she’s making)
Late-night-learning / kiddush-in-the-morning treats
- M&M cookies (or just use your regular chocolate chip cookie recipe, but add in lots of M&Ms)
- 3-ingredient peanut butter cookiese
- Israeli no-bake cheesecake
- Chocolate cheesecake brownies
This is a lot, so I may cut one or two of the above. It’s possible I had a sweet tooth while writing my plan.
Shavuot lunch
- We were invited out, so we’re bringing a salad (tomato, basil and baby mozzarella)
